Nurbol Nurakhmet – October 3

Nurbol Nurakhmet is a Kazakhstani artist who makes paintings that probe Central Asian narratives and constructs. On the surface, his paintings may appear innocent yet further study reveals unsettling layers of meaning. Figurative elements appear caught in a collective paradox, suspended in a reality of conceptual dichotomies. Nurakhmet is interested in both personal and collective memories and creates powerful statements in his large-scale paintings on the cultural and social climate of Central Asia. Additionally, he incorporates traditional and digital collage in his works.

Recent exhibitions include Eurasian Utopia: Post Scriptum at the Suwon I’Park Museum of Art (2018), At the Corner: City, Place, People, Tselinny Centre for Contemporary Culture, Almaty, (2018), Suns and Neons above Kazakhstan, the Yarat, Baku (2017).
