A KIMEP School Debate Grand Tournament 2022 for the future lawyers and international law professionals
The School Debate Grand Tournament is a unique opportunity for the future applicants to demonstrate their intellectual potential and public speaking abilities, as well as to become the winner of 100% and 50% scholarships to study at International Law 6B04201 and Jurisprudence 6B04202 programs in KIMEP University for one academic year.
Dates of holding the tournament (2022):
May 11, Monday, 11:59 PM – registration for the tournament ends
May 13, Friday – invitation letters will be sent and participation confirmed
May 14, Saturday – preliminary meeting (brief) on organizing the tournament
May 21, Saturday – The First Tour
May 22, Sunday – the Second Tour
Tournament venue:

Criteria for participation in the tournament:
- Students of final years of secondary schools of the RK with any citizenship;
- Students of final years of vocational schools of the RK with any citizenship.
Registration of participants
Debate tournament is a team competition. One team shall consist of two people. To take part in the School Debate Grand Tournament you will have to register your team here at the KIMEP University website.
Manual for applying to take part in the tournament:
Step 1. Find a teammate.
Step 2. Take a link to get your team registered. Make sure that the registration is made by one person for the team of two members.
Step 3. Fill in all sections of the Registration Form – team title and contact information for all team members.
Step 4. Sign up for the tournament’s Telegram-channel at the link here, to be informed of all news and announcements, debate format and rules, as well as to get organizational explanations
Step 5. Actively follow the news at the channel to be ready to resolutions of the tournament.
Maximum number of teams in the tournament will depend on the number of applications – 16 teams (32 participants) or 32 teams (64 participants). Teams that registered late will be placed on the Waiting list of the tournament. Confirmation of participation of your tem in the tournament will be sent in writing.
Debate format
The tournament will be held in the format of parliamentary debates consisting of two tours. The first tour consists of two qualifying rounds. The second tour also consists of two rounds – semi-finals and finals. Only the teams demonstrating the best results in qualifying rounds will take part in the final rounds.
Debate round consists of several chambers (rooms). A chamber consists of two teams, playing the roles of the Government or the Opposition. Roles of the Government or the Opposition is distributed randomly before announcement of the round. The Government and the Opposition will debate on resolution – the statement to be discussed at the debate round
Presentations of the chamber speakers are limited to eight minutes. Debaters will take turns in speaking after permission of the Chamber Speaker – the Chamber Judge. You may read the detailed description of the debate format at the link to the tournament’s Telegram-channel.
Refereeing
Refereeing of rounds will be based on criteria of logics, relevance and importance of contents of the speaker’s presentations. Roles of referees will be played by KIMEP University School of Law faculty members, as well as the best students of the university. Public speaking skills will be judged by the 1 to 10 scale, in order to select the Best Speaker of the tournament. Arrangement of debates
On May 14 the preliminary meeting with all registered participants of the tournament will be held, with strict mandatory attendance. All news, online and offline meetings and other events will be announced at the official Telegram-channel.
Invitation letters with auditorium number and tournament schedule will be sent to emails on May 12-13, 2022. At the entrance to debate tournament it will be necessary to demonstrate the letter – either in a hard or soft copy, and the original personal state ID or passport.
The tournament will be held in English.
Awarding
By the results of the School Debate Grand Tournament three scholarships will be awarded:
- Each member of the tournament winning team will receive a scholarship of 100% tuition waiver for International Law and Jurisprudence programs at KIMEP University for 1 academic year.
- The Best Speaker of the Tournament will receive a scholarship of 50% tuition waiver for International Law and Jurisprudence programs at KIMEP University for 1 academic year.
The scholarship is given to study at Jurisprudence and International Law programs. Receiving a scholarship does not guarantee an admission to KIMEP University, because grant recipients will have to fulfill all requirements to the mentioned programs of KIMEP University, including the requirement of taking the exams on specialized subjects of UNT. For information on the rules of admission please refer to the Admissions Office. The scholarship shall not be retained in case of refusal from the scholarship or in case of transfer of the student to another program. Exceptions from this rule are possible only in case of timely presenting the confirmation from the school in writing on impossibility to select the necessary specialized subject of the UNT for admission to the preferred program (for students of NIS, etc.). Open House Day is a special and important event, its main goal is to introduce the university to the applicants and their parents and provide them with qualified informational support in selecting the future profession and the study program.

CAMPUS TOUR
We look forward to welcoming you at KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The campus tour includes a walk around the university, during which you will visit the Library, the Sports Center, the Academic Buildings, as well as the Residence Hall if you are an international student or come from outside Almaty. The walk will last for 30 to 60 minutes depending on the wishes and preferences that you indicated during registration.

Sunday Club at KIMEP University
Annually KIMEP University holds meetings of Sunday Club where participants together with university faculty members discuss various topics of business, finance, management, international relations, politics, economics, personal and professional development, and others.
All meetings are held in English, which allows the attendees to significantly deepen their language proficiency.
At the moment all meetings are held online. To attend the club meetings please register and enter the conference at the appointed time.

Summer Picnic
Summer is a very responsible and important period for graduates of secondary educational and professional organizations, which is associated with final exams, with choosing the future profession and university, and with admission to higher educational institutions.
The main process of submitting original documents and taking the entrance exams takes place during the summer period, therefore the Admission Office of KIMEP University receives a large number of requests from applicants and their parents related to the process of admission and enrollment mainly in summer. In addition, the Admission Office shares with prospective students the useful information about all changes in admission and enrollment rules by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, if any, about academic programs, documents required for admission, selection stages, and also provide personal advice on all issues that concern you.
Every summer, KIMEP University Admission Office staff members organize a Summer Picnic – an event for those who are considering or interested in studying at KIMEP. The event is held outdoors on a beautiful campus. There you can meet and ask your questions directly to KIMEP students, faculty, and staff from various departments, such as the financial support department and the international office.

Presentation request
Dear representatives of educational institutions,
We bring to your attention the new request form for online and offline KIMEP presentations at your educational institution.
Offline presentation is optional for your educational institution if the epidemiological situation in the city allows meeting with your students following all current requirements of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
If your educational institution is outside of Almaty, then offline presentation is possible only within the framework of an approved business trip.
Presentations are available from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00. Presentations cannot be conducted during weekends and holidays, and when in conflict with other University events.
Registration for the presentation must be made at least 2 days before the expected day of presentation.
After registration you will receive a written confirmation from the Admissions’ officer.
Please, do not plan anything without official confirmation from the University’s Admissions Office.

Request for individual or family presentation
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW WHEN ARRIVING TO THE UNIVERSITY FOR AN OFFLINE PRESENTATION
- All visitors must present an ID or a passport (sufficient to show a photo of your document on the phone) to gain access to the campus.
- Have a face mask with you. For citizens of Kazakhstan and foreign citizens with a residence permit enter the University using the ASHYQ app.
- Upon arrival visitors go through a personal data check with the KIMEP Internal Security Officer on the first floor of the building (Abai-Valikhanov entrance).
- After personal data is checked, visitors can go to Office 103, 103A or 107 of the Admissions Office where you will be greeted by staff and students responsible for a presentation or admission advising.
