Creative Exam – 8 July

Dear Journalism program (5ВО50400) applicants,

Admissions office would like to provide you with important information pertaining to creative exams:

Date – July 8, 2018
Timing – 10 am -12:45 pm
Location – Hall # 1 (New Academic Building)

In order to participate in the creative exams the following steps should be undertaken by July 7 as latest:

  1. Registration for the creative exams is done through the applicant portal https://www.kimep.kz/ext/application/online/
  2. Authentic copy of the high school diploma and certificate of the UNT/KTA (if available) shall be submitted to the Admissions office

Maximum score for each of the creative exams is 40, minimum passing score for each of the creative exams is 5. Applicants with the score below 5 on one of the exams are not eligible for admission to Journalism program. There is no second attempt to pass creative exams. The following subjects are considered for calculation of the total score on UNT/KTA: History of Kazakhstan, Reading comprehension, first creative exam (essay) and second creative exam (written interview).

Those applicants who scored 50 and above on the UNT/KTA including 5 scores and above on the History of Kazakhstan and Reading comprehension, and 5 scores and above on each of the creative exams are eligible to be admitted to the Journalism program.

Creative entrance exams for journalism programs: an essay and a written interview

Who takes the test: Applicants to the BAJ program
Language: English, Kazakh, or Russian
Duration: 2 hours(essay) and 45 minutes (interview) 
Volume: 450 – 500 words, no less than two pages of A4
Points 40 points maximum for essay and 40 points maximum for the interview

Short description:
The entrance essay is designed to enable the applicant to express his or her creative abilities in one of the chosen topics. The essay should be based on the applicant’s life experience and personal views and not on literary sources. It should consist of an introduction, supporting paragraphs which develop the main idea, and a conclusion.
Criteria used when evaluating the essay:

  1. Content – the ability to analyze the reality of a situation, as well as the ability to choose and use the correct facts;
  2. Logic – the capacity to express clear and logical statements and ideas;
  3. Structure – the ability to present an essay as a composition of multiple parts that will develop and articulate a clear idea(s) that are supported by logic and factual information;
  4. Language – written clearly and thoughtfully, using a rich vocabulary;
  5. Creativity – the essay should present a modern and interesting approach to the given topics.

Attention* According to the changes introduced to the State rules of admission as of  «08» June 2018 №334 applicants seeking admission to the Journalism program may take creative exams in any university located on the territory of Kazakhstan offering Journalism  program. Results of the creative exams (extract from the examination statement with obtained scores) can be requested from the university where the exam was taken and provided to KIMEP university. Thus, you have the option to take creative exams at KIMEP University or in another university, offering Journalism program! KIMEP University will accept results of creative exams with passing scores from another university for the purpose of admission to the Journalism program.
