Master of Arts (MA) in Economics
Preparing You for the Market Economy of the New Millennium
The 48-credit MA in Economics Program is offered by the Department of Economics at KIMEP's College of Social Sciences. It is a landmark program in the field of graduate education in Economics in Central Asia and beyond. It delivers advanced education - both in theoretical and applied economics - relevant to transition economies, integration into the world economy, and operation of world commodities and financial markets.
Students are trained to deal with managerial, governmental, and global economic problems by analyzing business and societal problems from an economic perspective and by proposing appropriate private sector and public policy remedies. All courses are taught by highly experienced and dedicated faculty with terminal degrees from well-known international universities. Most courses are comparable to MA courses in Economics at USA and Canadian universities.
Students may choose a major/ specialization from any of the following areas and choose a minor from an allied department in Business Administration:
- International Economics;
- Public Policy Economics;
- Financial Analysis.
Pre-MA courses
Intensive pre-MA courses are offered in summer for all new graduate students whose background are not strong enough to cope with MA level courses. The department makes decision about the students who must complete these courses before taking regular MA courses.
