The LL.M. at KIMEP is a post-graduate degree in law focusing upon the legal regime governing international business transactions, and applying that legal regime within the Kazakhstan context.
The relentless process of globalization and the interdependence of economies make it crucial to understand the international aspects of business transactions. The Republic of Kazakhstan is the largest country of Central Asia, rich in natural resources: oil, gas, and minerals. It thus has attracted substantial foreign direct investment in the extractive industries. However, Kazakhstan is not a one-dimensional economy. It has a significant agricultural base, and has established a world-class regional financial centre. In addition, the government has adopted an economic policy to diversify the economy along several sectors. In 2010, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Byelorussia formed a customs union. With such a vibrant and dynamic market, Kazakhstan is the perfect place to study international law.
KIMEP is the first institution in Central Asia to offer an LL.M. in International Law. The program comprises foundational courses and offers electives allowing a student to specialize in a particular area of international law. The Faculty is diverse, highly qualified, and committed to making certain that graduates have the skills necessary to obtain positions in the local and international market place. The language of instruction is the English language. The LL.M. may be completed in one-year or over a longer period to suit the needs of the individual student. It is open to persons who hold at least a bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized institution of higher education, and who have competence in the English language. In exceptional cases, an applicant who does not hold an undergraduate degree in law may be admitted at the discretion of the admissions committee.
