2nd Conference «New Advances in the Political Economy of Development in Eurasia»

Call for papers

 

KIMEP University and Almaty Management University, in association with the Harriman Institute at Columbia University and LMU Munich, are pleased to invite submissions to the 2nd Conference «New Advances in the Political Economy of Development in Eurasia» that will be organized as an in-person conference by KIMEP University and Almaty Management University, from June 6th to June 8th, 2024. The event will attract a large number of scholars and experts from leading international universities, presenting new research on topics related to the political economy of development in the Eurasian and Post-Soviet context.

Contributions from political science, economics, political economy, sociology, public administration and related social science disciplines are invited. We welcome submissions of theoretical as well as empirical, qualitative and quantitative papers that offer useful perspectives on recent developments and new challenges in the Eurasian region.

Topics of interest for submission include, but are not limited to:

  • Collective action and public goods
  • Comparative studies of governance
  • Social capital, trust, and cultural norms
  • Human capital and economic development
  • Political elites and economic performance
  • Path-dependence and persistence of economic growth

Submission. To participate in the workshop, please submit a paper draft or an abstract of up to 250 words, together with a CV, to Dinara Pisareva (dinara.pisareva@nu.edu.kz) by March 15th, 2024. Applicants will be informed about the selection by April 1st, 2024, and the authors of accepted proposals are expected to submit full papers by May 17th, 2024. There is no workshop fee. The Harriman Institute at Columbia University and LMU Munich may provide funding for travel expenses for PhD students upon request on a competitive basis. If necessary, indicate the requests together with the submission.
