This has been a challenging Spring and Summer for everyone. We know the challenges many applicants and parents faced as you have waited for UNT results, an announcement from the Ministry of Education as to whether classes would be held online or in the classroom and especially the cost of tuition at the university you have chosen to attend.
As a private higher education institution in we clearly understand the financial impact the pandemic has had on the country and on individuals. While many universities in Kazakhstan have chosen to increase tuition cost 50% to 100%. KIMEP chose to keep the same tuition and fee rates as we had in 2019-2020. In addition, KIMEP has looked at other ways in which to help our students. All our faculty went through an intensive three-week certification program to be completely prepared to teach online in order to continue to provide KIMEP students with the best education in Central Asia.
Unfortunately, we are not able to help all students with financial aid. KIMEP is a private, nonprofit organization. Our budget is dependent on student tuition and fees. Scholarships come from our budgeted funds and with a decrease in enrollments because of the economic impact of the pandemic we are currently unable to offer the same number of scholarships as had announced earlier before the pandemic struck Kazakhstan. We are very sorry that we all found ourselves in such a situation, and that the University had to make such a decision. We hope for your understanding, and that soon the situation will improve for all of us.
