On 22 July 2025, Dr. Kang visited Chonnam National University (CNU) in Kwangju as part of his academic tour across South Korea. He delivered a presentation introducing KIMEP University, the DPRK Strategic Research Center, and the research of Dr. Chan Young Bang. The presentation focused on the Center’s mission to promote deeper understanding of North Korea’s political and economic challenges and to build meaningful academic partnerships.

The visit to CNU was especially meaningful for Dr. Kang, who completed his undergraduate studies at the university. Known as the epicentre of the 1980 Kwangju Democratization Movement—a foundational moment in South Korea’s democratic history—Chonnam National University holds a vital place in the country’s intellectual and political landscape. The university’s legacy of civic engagement and academic excellence makes it an ideal partner for future collaboration.
