4TH TSINGHUA AREA STUDIES FORUM

JULY-2-4-2025

From July 2 to 4, the DPRK Strategic Research Center participated in the 4th Tsinghua Area Studies Forum, hosted at Tsinghua University in Beijing. The forum opened with an official ceremony on July 2, followed by a closed-door evening session hosted by renowned Chinese historian Professor Shen Zhihua. Dr. Chan Young Bang, Dr. Anar Shaikenova, and Dr. Sungju Park-Kang engaged in candid discussions with fellow delegates on a range of sensitive issues, including the DPRK’s future, China’s potential role in denuclearization efforts, and the evolving dynamics of the U.S.-China relations.

On July 3, Dr. Bang presented his paper on China-Central Asia cooperation, emphasizing how China can take a leadership role in the region and enhance its soft power—an area where it has historically underperformed. Ulan Nukan of KIMEP University also delivered a presentation on the growing economic leadership of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, highlighting how deepened ties with China can accelerate regional integration and prosperity.

The forum concluded with a closing ceremony on July 4. The event was widely regarded as a great success, offering vibrant academic exchange and valuable networking opportunities.
