Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Journalism
Kazakhstan’s Only Western-style Undergraduate Journalism Program
The 129 credit BAIJ is offered by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at KIMEP's College of Social Sciences. It is a four-year program for high school graduates interested in pursuing careers in mass media. The program is an entry-point into the media industry, providing for students practical online, broadcast and print journalism skills.
The program is supported by a unique and well-equipped media laboratory that offers you a hand-on experience of journalism and mass media.
Students can offer a major in International Journalism with the following specializations:
- Print, Broadcast and Online Journalism;
- Media Management;
- Public Relations.
The students can also choose minors from other allied departments.
Specializations
Print, Broadcast and Online Journalism
This specialization is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work as a journalist in this fast-changing industry. The focus of the program is on developing core journalism skills, specific technical capacities, and the critical knowledge to function effectively as a journalist.Media Management
This specialization is designed for students who want to manage news organizations. To work successfully on the management side of media, students need to understand the various information businesses, such as newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online news. In addition, students need to have a foundation in management economics and business administration to work effectively in this field.Public Relations
This specialization will teach students how to serve as intermediaries between organizations and the public which they serve. They will learn communication skills needed to advise management, set policies, and plan and execute strategic campaigns. The program will also include business administration and management courses.
