Life at KIMEP
From the moment we meet you at the airport, you’ll realize that life at KIMEP is different from anywhere else. You’ll be in the center of Asia, witnessing a great mixture of cultures, speaking English and studying at a premiere academic institution. Every day will be a new surprise as you begin your journey to understand this unique part of the world and this unique institute.
KIMEP follows the American system of credits. Every student is assigned to a faculty member as his or her academic advisor. In addition, international students have a local student peer advisor who helps with cultural adjustment issues and serves as a guide to the riches of Almaty. Most importantly, there is no discrimination at KIMEP on racial, national, sexual, religious, or any other terms. Kazakhstani students live and study together with their international classmates.
In general, students should expect teaching and studying similar to that of a Western university. This implies pro-active student participation in seminars and workshops, independent learning and working in teams. KIMEP students spend a big portion of their time preparing group assignments, creating presentations and conducting their own research.
Although attendance to all classes is crucial, many professors do not take official attendance. On the other hand, seminars and coursework are very demanding, and students are highly recommended to attend as much as possible.
