General Rules for Exchange Programs
KIMEP’s exchange programs offer students the opportunity to spend either a semester or a full academic year at one of our partner universities abroad. Exchange programs enable you to gain valuable international experience, make new friends all over the world, improve your English and study other languages. If you want to challenge yourself and open up new horizons, please see the list of KIMEP’s partner universities and exchange program descriptions for more information about partner institutions, dates, average monthly cost of living, and details of individual exchange programs.
All exchange programs with KIMEP’s partner universities are governed by the following general rules (although exceptions are possible in certain cases):
- The two institutions agree to exchange students on a reciprocal basis
- Students are expected to study abroad for one or two semesters only
- Partner universities provide a dormitory place or assistance in finding accommodation for exchange students
- Students pay their tuition fees to KIMEP and are exempted from paying tuition at the host institute; the student fee is paid either to KIMEP or to the host university, depending on the agreement with the host university
- Students are responsible for all expenses, usually including meals, accommodation, transportation, and personal expenses, that are not specified in the partnership agreements; please check the calendar dates and average monthly cost of living for each partner university in the exchange program descriptions
- Exchange students remain registered at their home university, but the courses they take at a partner university can generally be counted towards their degree at their home institution. Exchange students are strongly advised to get the courses they will take abroad approved prior to departure in order to ensure that they can be transferred smoothly to KIMEP. Please read the Course Transfer Procedure for Exchange Students for more detailed information
- Generally, applicants are selected based on their GPA, language skills, extracurricular activities, and recommendation letters. Preference is usually given to undergraduate students who have earned from 30 to 100 credits and masters degree students who have earned at least 12 credits.
Tuition, Expenses and Scholarships
Undergraduate students who take part in exchange programs pay tuition for a minimum of four courses and graduate students for a minimum of three courses at KIMEP prior to departure. Please consult the course transfer procedure for more detailed information.
