MPA program at a glance

The Master of Public Administration is a 3-semester, 36 credit program for students ready to devote their careers to service in the public sector.  This is Central Asia’s best program for the study of government, an academic discipline that is well-developed in Europe and the United States.

KIMEP’s Public Administration Department trains students of diverse academic and professional backgrounds in the art and science of government.  Students learn how the specifics of management for government, NGOs and other non-profit organizations.  They receive a high-level background in policy analysis, taking political, social and economic factors into consideration.

Admission Requirements

+ University degree with good academic standing
+ Passing the KIMEP English Entrance Test (KEET),  or holding a certifi¬cate of TOEFL or IELTS

Graduate Scholarship

All graduate students are eligible to apply for financial support. Financial assistance can be need-based, merit-based or a combination of both for full-time KIMEP students. It may cover up to 100% of tuition.

Special features of the Program

  • The Department offers a multidisciplinary program that focuses on organizational governance, finance, human resources, policy affairs, labor relations and other critical issues.  Combined with training in statistics and computer software, the program produces highly employable graduates for the public sector.
  • Core PA faculties are highly qualified (in terms of academic degrees, teaching, research and administrative experiences) with 50% of the faculties obtaining PhDs from reputed western universities. The department has 14 faculty with a balance of gender (50% male and 50% female) and balance of international and local faculty ( 57% foreign and 43% Kazakhstani).Core faculties are research-active and a good number of faculties have published (books, book chapters, articles and so on) with internationally reputed publishing houses/ in international referred journals.
  • The department has obtained institutional membership of major Public Administration associations and networks such as International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), Network of Institutes and Schools of Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe (NISPAcee) and Network of Asia-Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG). Such memberships are a testimony to the high quality of the programs offered by the department.
  • The department offers an academic internship in government, NGOs, business and International development Organizations. Recently students interned at organizations such as USAID, the British Council, United Nations Development Program, various ministries of the Republic of Kazakhstan and many foreign embassies.

Membership in major International Public Administration Associations

KIMEP’S department of Public Administration has obtained institutional membership from a range of major international Public Administration associations and networks, such as The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), The National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), The Network of Institutes and Schools of Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe (NISPAcee) and The Network of Asia-Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG). Such memberships are a testimony to the high quality of the programs offered by the department.

Dual Degrees

A dual degree programme (MPA) with the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration is underway.
