Faculty Evaluation for 2010
You are invited to provide as much information on your work activities and outputs in 2010 as you wish.
Please submit this completed form with the necessary attachments to the Chair of your Department by 1 April 2011.
Faculty Evaluation Principles
1. Fair evaluation of the performance of faculty is fundamental to ensuring that those who contribute are adequately rewarded. This requires a faculty evaluation that permits a differentiation of faculty performance. The information gathered from you in this faculty evaluation form will be used to the differentiation your performance from that of other faculty. It will provide the required performance evidence needed to justify any contract renewal, promotion, annual bonus, and faculty development recommendations. Before transmission to the Dean, it will reviewed by the Chair, who, in so doing, must consult with your Department’s Contract Renewal and Promotion Committee. Once evaluated, your annual performance will be discussed with you, either by the Dean or, at his/her discretion, by your Chair.
2. A guarantee of continued employment requires satisfactory annual scores on your overall performance and on each performance dimension. Those who fail to meet these minimum standards of faculty performance in any year will be required to engage in an agreed program of faculty development in those performance dimensions where their performance is less than satisfactory.
3. Annual performance bonus recommendations will be based your overall performance score relative to other College faculty (that is, your overall performance ranking in the College) and on any exceptional scores you achieve, relative to other faculty, in any one or more performance dimensions (that is, your College ranking with respect to: teaching contribution, research and scholarship, administrative contributions and management participation, and extra-curricular, recruitment, and special activities).
4. The evaluation for promotion is cumulative performance over time. The criteria and procedures are stated in the current Faculty Code of Practice.

Calculation: Sum of aggregate of students evaluations scores (out of 5) for all courses over the year as a percentage of the maximum possible student evaluation (=5 x no. of courses taught over the year) divided by 5.
A course syllabus can be peer-evaluated only once every four years.
A peer teaching review must be of a different course each year.
The Chair must seek advice on annual teaching performance of any faculty from the Department Contract Renewal and Promotion Committee.
Any publication accepted for publication but not published during the evaluation period can be claimed either in this evaluation period or in the evaluation period during which it is published. It can, however, be claimed only once. Evidence of acceptance is required and must be attached.
Maximum points claimed only if paper subsequently submitted to an international peer-review journal. Evidence of submission is required and must be attached.
Maximum points claimed only if paper subsequently submitted to an international peer-review journal. Evidence of submission is required and must be attached.
A work-in-progress must be justified in terms of: (1) a funded multi-year research project; or (2) a book contract (points for work-in-progress cannot cumulatively exceed the maximum points assigned to the final publication, and the points claimed for the final publication cannot exceed the maximum points assigned to the final publication).
This is an open-ended category but any outputs claimed must be verifiable and in a form that permits the embodied quality of research and scholarship involved to be judged by peer-review.
The Chair must seek advice on annual research and scholarship performance of any faculty from the Department Contract Renewal and Promotion Committee.
