Short description:
Section 1: Grammar Structures

The first section is designed to test the grammar skills of applicants.  Candidates will have to choose the correct word or phrase to complete simple sentences. They will choose from three or four possible answers that may have the same meaning, but only one of which is grammatically correct.

Section 2: Grammar and Vocabulary in Context

The second section is designed to test the grammar and vocabulary development of applicants. They will read short selections which are missing key words. They will choose the best word to complete the text from among three or four possible answers.

Section 3: Reading Comprehension

The third section is designed to test the reading comprehension of applicants. They will read longer selections and choose from among multiple answers or provide short written responses which best describe the meaning of the text.

Short description:

No Sample test will be made available. Students are encouraged to review Internet sites for SAT-type tests.

Section 1: Mathematics and verbal reasoning

This section has 20 questions and is designed to test the quantitative (mathematics) skills of the applicants. Questions in this format require students to work choose one of a group of answers on offer.

Section 2: History

This section has 25 questions. They test the applicant’s knowledge of the World History of the XX century.

The KIMEP Standardized Achievement Test is designed to analyse an individual’s overall potential for success at University level. It requires accurate quantitative skills and good general knowledge, along with high-level critical thinking.

KIMEP Standardized Entrance Essay / BAIJ

Who takes the test: Applicants to the BAIJ & MAIJ programs
Language: English, Kazakh, or Russian
Duration: 2 hours
Volume: 450 – 500 words, not less than two pages of A4

Short description:

The entrance essay is designed to enable the applicant can express his or her creative abilities in one of the chosen topics. The essay should be based on the applicant’s life experience and personal views and not on literary sources. It should consist of an introduction, supporting paragraphs which develop the main idea, and a conclusion.

Сriteria used when evaluating the essay:

a) Content – ability to analyze current events based on factual information.
b) Logic – clear, concise development of opinions and ideas.
c) Structure – the framework should be developed so that all the necessary parts contribute to developing the main ideas in turn.
d) Grammar – the essay should be written without mistakes, at a level of language appropriate for written exposition.
