Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window
Dear Students,
The second round of the scholarship program "Erasmus Mundus ECW lot 9 - 2009-2010" is open for applications from now till 29 January, 2010. For the second round the following numbers and criteria are implied:
- 7 undergraduates - citizens from Kyrgyzstan (TG 1, 2,3), Tajikistan (TG 1, 2,3), and Turkmenistan (TG 2, 3) studying at KIMEP for the following universities:
University of Deusto (Spain), Humboldt University (Germany), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), METU Ankara (Turkey)
- 5 Masters - citizens from Kyrgyzstan (TG 1), Tajikistan (TG 1) and Turkmenistan (TG 2, 3) studying at KIMEP for the following universities:
University of Deusto (Spain), Freie Universität Berlin (Germany)
- 9 PhDs for KIMEP and 3 other Kazakh Universities (TG1) and
- 1 PhD for citizens of Turkmenistan (TG1+3) working at KIMEP for the following European Universities:
University of Algarve (Portugal), University of Deusto (Spain), Free University Berlin (Germany), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia)

ON-LINE QUESTIONNAIRE FOR Erasmus Mundus ECW Lot 8 ALUMNI and CURRENT PARTICIPANTS!
Dear Erasmus Mundus Alumni and Current Participants!
We kindly ask you to fill in the questionnaire about your exchange experience within EM program. The results of this online questionnaire will be used for evaluation purposes. By filling it in the consortium of lot 9 will be able to improve both organizational and academic quality of the program on the bases of the outcome.
For your information this questionnaire is anonymous (you do not need to fill in your name). It will only take you about five to ten minutes of your time.

GENERAL INFORMATION
KIMEP became a member of the Consortium for Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EMECW) lot 9 mobility program in 2007.
The program gives students the opportunity to study and do research at any of the following European partner institutions:
- Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands
- Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey
- Freie University Berlin, Germany
- Lund University, Sweden
- University of Deusto, Spain
- University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
- Humboldt University Berlin, Germany
- University of Algarve, Portugal
Type and duration of study / research abroad
KIMEP students belong to Target Group 1 (students studying at a university which is a member of the partnership). They are entitled to take a course of study or research at their chosen host university. The duration of their stay will depend on the type of mibility the student has chosen:

For the 2009-2013 mobility period, the latest possible start date is the 1st of September 2010.
Financial information for participants in the program
- Waiver for tuition fee at a host University (participants pay normal tuition fee at KIMEP for the courses taken at the partner university)
- Allowance for return travel costs (up to €2,000)
- Monthly subsistence allowance (€1,000-undergraduates and Masters, 1,500- Doctorates) for housing, food, and other personal expenses
- Insurance cost (€75 per month abroad)
- Students are not paid their monthly allowance during breaks/vacations if there are no academic activities. The host university will prolong the period of study and pay for it according to the duration of breaks/vacations. They may also offer students the opportunity to take part in academic activities during this period
- The program does not cover the cost incurred in obtaining the necessary visas
- You are advised to ensure that you have money available to cover your expenses until you get the first stipend abroad. Due to different regulations at host universities, your monthly allowance may not be paid immediately upon your arrival.
Admission criteria
- Applicants of target group 1 must be registered at KIMEP. Undergraduate students must have completed at least one full year of studies; fast-track masters students may apply immediately after being enrolled at KIMEP; regular masters students may apply from their second semester.
- Applicants must have the relevant background and will have access to all regular courses for which they have the necessary prerequisites
- Applicants must have a good command of English (TOEFL 6.0 or the equivalent)
- Applicants must have an overall GPA of no less than 3.0
- Students may participate in the Erasmus Mundus ECW program only one time.
Application procedure
- Those who are interested in the program and would like to apply should read the guidelines on how to apply for an exchange program and bring their completed application form to the International Office.
- Applicants should also consult the website of the Erasmus Mundus Program for the information on member universities, descriptions of their programs, information on language of instruction and courses of offer, and read about the on-line application procedure
- Applicants should discuss their proposed courses/research area with their academic adviser
- Applicants should also submit an EMECW application on-line which is available on the Erasmus Mundus ECW website. In the application KIMEP students should indicate Target Group 1 (partner institution).
- KIMEP students should present a letter of support from the International Relations Office as a part of their online application. Being eligible for the competition and depending on duration of stay and the host university chosen, they may be asked to send official TOEFL/IELTS results to the host university.
- If the applicant will take courses in other language then English the applicant doesn't need to have TOEFL/IELTS result but should provide a document proving the corresponding language proficiency.
- Finalists who have received a letter of nomination by email should inform the International Relations Office, which will send the applicant's original documents by express mail to the Consortium for the final approval. Finalists will be contacted by the host university by email. Since that time they will be guided by a coordinator from their host university.
The EMECW Selection Committee guarantees an impartial and transparent selection process based on academic merit and equal treatment.
