The second round of the scholarship program "Erasmus Mundus ECW lot 9 - 2009-2010" is open for applications from now till 29 January, 2010. For the second round the following numbers and criteria are implied:
- 9 PhDs for KIMEP and 3 other Kazakh Universities (TG1)
- 1 PhD for citizens of Turkmenistan (TG1+3) for the following European Universities:
University of Algarve (Portugal), University of Deusto (Spain), Free University Berlin (Germany), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia);
- 3 Post-Doctorate places for nationals from Kazakhstan (TG1+ 3) for the following European Universities:
University of Deusto (Spain), Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), METU Ankara (Turkey)
- 2 academic staff mobility places for KIMEP and other Kazakh University for the following European Universities:
University of Deusto (Spain), Free University Berlin (Germany) and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia)

General Information
KIMEP became a member of the Consortium for Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EMECW) lot 9 mobility program in 2007.
The program gives faculty an opportunity to undertake study and research abroad at one of the following partner universities:
- Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands
- Middle East Technical University, Turkey
- Freie University Berlin, Germany
- Lund University, Sweden
- University of Deusto, Spain
- University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
- University of Algarve, Portugal
- Humboldt University Berlin, Germany
Type and duration of study / research abroad
KIMEP's academic staff belong to the Target Group 1 (academic staff registered at one of the member universities of the partnership). The duration of the program will depend on the type of mobility an applicant has chosen:

| Academic staff | 1 - 3 months |
For the 2009-2013 mobility period, the latest possible start date is 1st September 2010.
Financial information for grantees
Financial information for participants in the program
- Waiver for tuition fee at a host University
- Allowance for return travel costs (up to €2,000)
- Monthly subsistence allowance (€1,500- Doctorates, €1,800- Post-Doctorates, €2,500 -academic staff) for housing, food, and other personal expenses
- Insurance cost (€75 per month abroad)
- Participants are not paid their monthly allowance during breaks/vacations if there are no academic activities. The host university will prolong the period of study and pay for it according to the duration of breaks/vacations. They may also offer students the opportunity to take part in academic activities during breaks and holidays.
- The program does not cover the cost incurred in obtaining the necessary visas
- You are advised to ensure that you have money available to cover your expenses until you get the first stipend abroad. Due to differing regulations at host universities, your monthly allowance may not be paid immediately upon your arrival.
Admission criteria
- Applicants of target group 1 must be employees at KIMEP.
- Good command of English
- Each participant may take part in the program only one time
- In case of belonging to target group 3 please indicate it as well and prove the status by submitting the relevant documents.
Application procedure
- Discuss your proposed courses / research with your dean / chair
- Fill in the Application Form for Faculty Exchange.
- Submit your application in person to the International Relations Office (room 409 Dostyk, tel 270 44 80 ext. 2107), or email a scanned copy to Yuliya Rogozhina at .
- Consult the website of the Erasmus Mundus Program for more information on member universities, descriptions of their programs, information on language of instruction and courses of offer, and read about the on-line application procedure
- Applicants should also submit an EMECW application on-line which is available on the Erasmus Mundus ECW website. In the on-line application KIMEP academic staff should indicate Target Group 1 (partner institution).
- Applicants should present a letter of support from the International Relations Office as a part of their online application. Depending on duration of stay and the host university chosen, they may be asked to send TOEFL or IELTS results to the host university.
- Finalists will be informed about their nomination by email and should ensure that they keep the International Relations Office posted on the progress of their application. The International Relations Office will collect the original documents required and send them by express mail to the Consortium for the grant award. Grantees will be contacted by a coordinator from the host university by email. Since this time participants they will be guided by the coordinator from their host university and conditions of stay are subject of the host university regulations.
- The period of stay at the host university may be different to that one you indicated in your on-line application - please check all details of your period of stay, etc sent in the letter of acceptance by the host university.
The EMECW Selection Committee guarantees an impartial and transparent selection process based on academic merit and equal treatment.
