As KIMEP’s mission is to develop well-educated citizens and to improve the quality of life in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian region, KIMEP has begun efforts to promote civic service and encourage students to seek opportunities to serve the greater community.  To support students and faculty looking for opportunities to fulfill this mission, KIMEP has become a member of the Talloires Network.

Established in September 2005, the Talloires Network is an international association of academic institutions aimed at promoting community service and social responsibility.  The network advocates for the expansion of civic engagement activities and promotes the most promising practices from its members and others in the field of higher education.  Specifically, the network publishes stories of successful projects on its website, in its monthly newsletter, in its book, and by awarding the annual MacJanet Prize for Global Citizenship.

Membership in the Talloires will benefit the KIMEP community in many ways.  First and foremost, the network will provide KIMEP with further connections to the international academic community.  As part of the Talloires network, KIMEP’s faculty and students will be able to receive a wealth of materials, including opportunities for collaborative projects, examples of cutting-edge teaching techniques for experiential learning and information about the most innovative and effective service programs, projects, research and tools.

KIMEP hopes that membership in the Talloires Network will encourage KIMEP students and faculty to reach out further to the community and continue to engage in the long-term development of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.  The Talloires Network will be a great tool to provide civic-minded members of the KIMEP community the tools and motivation to make a lasting impact both in and outside of KIMEP.
